Haleakala Downhill Biking Features
Guided or Unguided Bike Tour
The difference between a guided and unguided tour is that you have a bit of safety in numbers, a guide who knows the road if you are a little uneasy on a bike, and a support vehicle available behind the group to slow down traffic or available to rest in if you get tired on the bike.
With an unguided tour, you can go at your own pace and stop as little or as often as you like. This allows for a more unique adventure and more flexibility in your experience. We feel not having the safety net of a guide unchains restrictions on your experience and helps facilitate the overall feeling of adventure and exploration. This tour is for those who are adventurous, are comfortable on a bike and like to get away from the crowd.
Upcountry Maui
The biking portion of our tour occurs in the ranch lands that have safe roads and unparalleled views. We enjoy biking the route before your guide takes you on a sightseeing journey around the Upcountry area of Maui. We will see the beautiful trees, forests, farms and quaint villages of the area. We will make a stop in Makawao for some exploration on your own.
Makawao
A favorite stop for vacationers on Maui is the quaint town of Makawao. Those riding down the mountain often like visiting this Paniolo (Cowboy) town for lunch, shopping, home made bakery items or just some coffee. Enjoy exploring this historic town and take a break from the saddle with a relaxing stroll around this town. You may even see a Cowboy riding by or a horse hitched at the Makawao General Store! Great dining, boutiques and more make this a wonderful stop on our sightseeing tour portion.
Haiku Or Paia Tour Endings
This tour can end up in one of two places. At our base camp in Haiku, a lush sugar mill town. Great shops and food await you here also, even if you stopped in Makawao for a treat. Fill up on a Hawaiian-style “plate lunch” at Kings BBQ, or try one of the many styles of Ahi Poke at Haiku Market. Sample a variety of locally made Kombucha at Maui Kombucha, which is rumored to give you a bit of a buzz. For vegetarians, there is Veg Out, a must-try vegetarian restaurant.
Or in Paia with itʻs surf shops and fun food options like flatbread, crepes, gelatos, and shave ice.
Nearby Attractions
From here, if you drove yourself, you can explore the rest of the area including nearby waterfalls (Twin falls is just a little up the road towards Hana) or world famous surfing destination, Hookipa beach. After that, stop by the surfer town of Paia and have a drink at one one of the quaint local bars, or have dinner at Michelin star rated, Mama’s Fish House before making your way back to your hotel or condo on the South or West sides of Maui.
